ADULT DIGITAL SKILLS CLASSES

DIGITAL SKILLS FOR ALL

In an increasingly digital world, older adults aged 50 and older are at risk of being left behind. Allegheny County has one of the oldest metropolitan populations, with 19.7% of residents aged 65 or older, compared to 16.8% across the U.S. Digital skills are now required to access most federal benefits, schedule medical appointments, and visit with a health care provider. Studies have also shown that having digital skills to connect with loved ones helps with social isolation and loneliness, issues that may increase the risk of death by up to 26%.

While some anchor institutions offer digital skills classes in the City of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County, there are still underserved neighborhoods and populations in need of digital skills training. Neighborhood Allies seeks to fill the gap in areas deemed “digital skills deserts,” and create curriculum to meet the needs of marginalized populations such as immigrants, refugees, and other recent arrivals
